ECOWAS Lifts Sanction On Mali

ECOWAS Lifts Sanction On Mali

The sanctions placed on Mali by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has been lifted.

ECOWAS stated the reason for lifting the imposition as the country's “notable advances towards constitutional normalisation”.

The West African bloc had said that the sanctions placed on the country would be lifted if the country transitioned to civilian rule.

Under the country's new government, the former foreign minister, Moctar Ouane, was installed as prime minister, adhering to the agreement of installing a civilian leader.

ECOWAS has also directed that all military and civilian personnel held in detention during the coup be released.
