A 20-year-old South African man is set to appear in court on March 8, 2023 in connection with a series of murders in Phillippi East, Cape Town.
According to South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa, the murders occurred in Philippi East on the evening of October 8, 2022.
“The investigation into the murders, which occurred in three crime scenes that were in the same vicinity and left five people dead, saw the [Serious Violent Crimes] detectives conducting a search and seizure operation at an address in Phillippi East where they confiscated two firearms,” the police spokesperson said.
Ballistics testing was performed on the confiscated firearms.
Along with the murder charges, the 20-year-old man will face charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
The police investigation is ongoing, and the man could be linked to other murders, according to Potelwa.
