As 2023 draws closer, those who are familiar with the electioneering process are reminded that Kano has been a strategic state in all elections that have taken place in the country.

The ruling APC that seized power from the PDP in 2015 took many but surprise, all thanks to the party leaders including Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the likes of Senator Rabi'u Musa Kwankwaso.

After the change of power, APC has come to believe that it would continue to rule the nation for a while, but it has lost too many prominent members with millions of supporters, especially in the Northern region.

Kano APC, a state that contributed 78.9 % of votes to the 2019 Presidential election is currently is divided at a crucial time when opposition Atiku Abubakar is amassing support from the North.

Since Kwankwaso left the party to become the Presidential candidate in the NNPP, the APC has been saddled with one crisis after another.

The most recent includes Alhassan Ado Doguwa who has been at the House of Representatives since 2003, and has been indicating interest to be the speaker in the next Assembly should he be reelected and former commissioner for local government, currently the running mate to Kano APC gubernatorial Candidate in Kano, Murtala Sule Garo.

Though Doguwa has been in the game for long and amassed loyal supporters, Garo who played a key role in clinching the governorship seat for Ganduje has the support of youths in almost all the 44 local governments of the state.

The Garon/Doguwa Clash

It was somewhere within the last week that Doguwa and Garo's disagreement was made very public.

This happened when the Majority leader appeared at the house of the state Deputy Governor/APC gubernatorial candidate in Kano, Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna to speak with the state APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas.

There was an exchange of words and Garo was allegedly injured on his hand that was cut by a glass cup.

According to news reports, Garo threw a teacup at Garo after a heated argument, but according to Doguwa, "Garo insulted my father as I sat across from him".

Doguwa in subsequent press conferences alleged that Garo tried to reach out to grab him and that when the cup fell, he (Garo) also fell and cut his hand.

In a Thursday briefing at the House, the Majority leader, Doguwa accused Sule Garo (an in-law to PDP Presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar) of preferring to remain Atiku's In-law than become a Deputy Governor.

In a chat with Channels TV, Doguwa said he wasn't afraid of being quoted but Gari doesn't mean to work towards the success of the APC in Kano.

Gari hasn't publicly admitted to or refuted the allegations of Doguwa, which are very numerous.

Doguwa isn't a light card for the APC to lose weight but with the way he is reaching out to Senator Kwankwaso, losing him for the Kano APC may be imminent.

What happens next?

Let's lay the cards.

Alhassan Doguwa was heard saying if the APC leadership wouldn't intervene in the matter, the national body should forget about Kano.

Remember, Kano had the highest in previous elections that contribute to most Presidential votes needed for a winner.

Secondly, Doguwa publicly reached out to Kwankwaso, saying just a phone call from the latter would ease the grievance between them.

Third, should Murtala Sule Garo be really working towards being a good son-in-law to Atiku, he may just work for the PDP's success.

Fourth, Kwankwaso, whether popular in the entire country or not is undeniably the most popular politician in Kano.

With the cards laid out what would happen to votes for Tinubu in a state with a very high percentage of voters?
