Former President Goodluck Jonathan has met with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and his running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa, behind closed doors.

The meeting took place on Thursday night in Abuja in what is undoubtedly Atiku soliciting Jonathan's support in the race for the 2023 presidency.

Atiku's rift with Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has caused major division in the ranks of the PDP and on Friday, he welcomed reports that the latter is favourably disposed to the resolution of the crisis.

Expressing confidence that Nigerians will vote for Atiku and Okowa, PDP had said citizens have realised that they made a mistake by voting for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015.

“We believe that Nigerians have since realised that they made a huge mistake by voting for the APC in 2015.

“They now know that the party of aggrieved persons who relied on baseless propaganda to deceive Nigerians into voting them into office have nothing other than excuses to offer as soon as they took over.

“Majority of Nigerians would prefer a return to the pre-2015 era when the PDP offered purposeful leadership with the economy enjoying steady growth, the exchange rate of the Naira to the Dollar was within a tolerable range.

"...Nigerians are eager to give their mandate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and the PDP, to rescue Nigeria from the hands of APC a party that is better off in opposition because members lack the requisite skill sets to provide true leadership", said the Spokesperson for the Atiku-Okowa PDP Campaign Organisation, Kola Ologbondiyan.
