As controversies trail the alleged mass sack of workers at Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State, the management of the institution has denied claims of dismissing its members of staff.

The Governor of the state, Godwin Obaseki, on Tuesday, disengaged himself from the letters titled “repositioning the University” by the interim management of the university as the reason for the sack of the 90 workers.

The management dismissed the claims through the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Lawrence Isiraojie while speaking to newsmen on the development.

“The claims are not a true reflection of happening in the school,” he said.

Isiraojie, however, affirmed that a lecturer from the Department of Economics was sacked and a professor from the Modern Languages was retired.

“The information circulating around about the mass sack is not true.

“Management has not sacked those workers they listed on the paper circulating around social media.

“Only two individuals were affected,” he noted.

Reacting to this, the Chairman of the institution's chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dr Cyril Onogbosele, stated that the staff were sacked in the management's attempt to discourage the staff from demanding their dues.

“Already 22 staff members have been given sack letters”, adding that up to 90 workers might be affected.

“The move is part of an attempt to suppress the staff members from demanding what was due to them," he said.
