Ahead of the Saturday rerun election in Adamawa State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has begun the distribution of sensitive and nonsensitive materials in the state.

Recall that INEC had declared the March 18 election in the state inconclusive.

INEC had stated that the number of Permanent Voter's Cards (PVCs) collected in areas where the election was cancelled was higher than the margin of lead.

The top contenders in the election were Senator Aishatu Binani of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the serving Governor, Ahmadu Umar Fintiri of the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

Fintiri is currently leading the race with over 30,000 votes.

The distribution of the election materials took place on Friday in Yola, the state's capital and was witnessed by two INEC national Commissioners, Professor Abdullahi Abdulzuru and Dr Baba Bola.

The state's Resident Electoral Commissioner, Barrister Hudu Ari, said the commission was optimistic about a credible and peaceful election.

“All the materials sensitive and non-sensitive materials have been dispatched. They will get to their destinations in good time,” Ari said.

He further appealed to all party supporters to be law abiding during and after the elections.

Also present during the distribution were agents of various political parties, security, local observers, and other stakeholders.
