At least three men have been arrested in connection with the murder of rapper Kiernan Forbes, known as AKA.
After keeping an eye on the suspects throughout the week, police achieved the breakthrough on Sunday.
The suspects were detained by the police after being apprehended in Cape Town, according to a source familiar with the inquiry into the rapper's murder.
They will be taken to Durban, where charges are anticipated.
When questioned about the arrest, Colonel André Traut, a spokesman for the Western Cape police, directed inquiries to the KwaZulu-Natal police.
“It is a KZN case, should we get any information, it will be sent to them. You should contact them for information,” he said. He would not confirm if the men were arrested in Cape Town.
KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda also would not confirm the arrest.
“We have not received any update on the AKA case,” he said in a statement on Monday.
AKA and his friend Tebello "Tibz" Motsoane were shot and killed in February on Florida Road in Durban.
A shooter approached the rapper as he stood outside the Wish restaurant and shot him in the head. The rapper passed away immediately.
His murder was caught on camera and had gone viral.
