The traditional council of the Ihite community has petitioned Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, the governor of Anambra State, pleading with him to step in and prevent a crisis in the community, as well as to disregard the procedure that resulted in Ifurunwa's selection as the community newly elected monarch.

In a signed petition by Barr N.I. Onyeakpa, their attorney, and chiefs Ahamkonye, Daniel Ifemkpa, Anudu Ephraim, and Geoffrey Okeke, the traditional council accused George Madu, the community's president general, of disregarding the constitution during the selection process to support his nominee.

"Ihite town in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State lost their Traditional Ruler Igwe, B.O. Ofu in 2020," according to some of the petitions.

It stated further, “Under Ihite native law and custom, after two (2) years of transition to glory by the Royal father, there shall be a joint meeting of the Ihite traditional council and the town union wherein the two important bodies in the town will discuss on how a new king or traditional ruler of the town should be elected.”

Onyeakpa pleaded with Soludo not to recognise Ifurunwa, the recently elected monarch.

He said that the community was taken aback by Madu's ability to carry out the selection process, even while the court was still deciding whether or not he could choose a king on his own and disregard the village's traditional council.

He said: “Our clients filed Suits in both customary court and Magistrate court challenging the purported dissolution of Ihite traditional council by the President General, and illegal process of selection, nomination and screening of a would-be traditional ruler of Ihite without reference to the traditional council of Ihite.”

Chief Geoffrey Okeke and Onowu Dominic Ahamkonye, two members of the traditional council who talked with the media, urged Soludo to annul the procedure and refuse to be tricked into giving the new monarch a certificate of return.

In the meantime, Madu, the community's president general, stated that the procedure was correct in a statement to the media.

He insisted that the procedure was open and indicated that only a small number residents in the neighbourhood were upset.
