The wife of Anambra Governor, Nonye Soludo has commended the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for donating five thousand Dignity Kits to the state government.

According to the donor agency, the items are for pregnant women and girls in their reproductive age, who were displaced by the recent flood incident.

Dignity kits contain hygiene and sanitary items, as well as other items explicitly tailored towards the local needs of women and girls of reproductive age in particular communities.

The generic hygiene kits help people improve cleanliness, with items such as soap, sanitary materials, toothbrushes and toothpaste.

Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) reported that the First Lady explained that the kits came at the right time, given the challenges of hygiene faced by women and girls, especially those at the holding camps across the state.

She said that having made similar donation for pregnant mothers, when she visited a holding camp at Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area, she felt elated by the UNFPA's move and sees the step as a commitment to promoting hygiene and healthy living among Anambra women and girls

She commended the UNFPA and Royal Heritage Health Foundation for the great collaboration and stated that the items would be beneficial to both present and future emergencies.

The governor's wife also called for more humanitarian interventions in areas affected by the flood, including special support for women and children.

According to UNFPA, dignity Kits help women and girls maintain proper hygiene after being displaced and are a critical component of the UNFPA humanitarian response.
