On Wednesday, the Anambra State Police Command said it prevented an attempted kidnapping of a man in the Aguata region of the state.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command's spokesperson, stated that police operatives in the vicinity were informed of the attack and responded quickly to rescue the man and reclaim his vehicle, a sky-blue Toyota Camry.

Ikenga stated that this was made feasible by the newly deployed state police commissioner, CP Nnaghe Itam, rearranging the Command's men's operating procedures.

Parts of the statement released by Ikenga reads, “The officers responded swiftly when they got the report at about 4:30 pm on 22/5/2024 of the abduction along Umuchiana village, Ekwulobia, Aguata LGA.

“During the hot chase by the Police team, the criminals shoved the victim out of the vehicle at Ndike village in Orumba North LGA and drove off to escape.

“The officers sustained the trail of the abductors and the criminals abandoned the vehicle along Umunze road, Orumba South LGA and ran into a nearby bush.

“Operations are still ongoing for the possible arrest of the hoodlums, while the victim has been debriefed and reunited with his family.”

Ikenga stated that the Commissioner of Police has pledged to continue the onslaught on criminal elements while charging the Command's soldiers to remain valiant.

Meanwhile, an 18-year-old man, Anichede Akachukwu, AKA Star B, has been detained by police in Anambra State for allegedly being a notorious cultist and the leader of an armed robbery group.

According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, the suspect is well-known for carrying out robberies in Asaba, Delta State, and Ogbaru, Anambra.

He was claimed to have been arrested while receiving treatment for a gunshot wound sustained during an operation in which he engaged in a shootout with police officers.

Parts of the statement read: “We announce the arrest on 17/5/2024 of a notorious and most wanted cultist and armed robber in Uruagu village, Oba, Idemili South LGA.

“The suspect, Anichede Akachukwu ‘M’ 18 years A.K.A Star B is a confessed leader of Vikings Secret Cult Confraternity and armed gang terrorizing Ogbaru LGA and Asaba in Delta State.

“His arrest is following a tip-off of intelligence gathered as he was receiving treatment in their den from a bullet wound sustained in their encounter with police operatives in Asaba.

“The suspects have provided police with information on their mode of operations and names of other gang members which is already aiding the ongoing investigation.”

Ikenga stated that in a separate operation in Okija, Ihiala LGA, Command operatives discovered a white Porsche Cayenne Jeep bearing the registration number AGL 60 HJ Lagos, which he believes is a secessionist operational vehicle.

He said: “During a search of the vehicle, the operatives found a bag and discovered 27 pieces of live 7.62m ammunition, three live cartridges, one-touch light, charms, and other incriminating items

“The CP has charged operatives to sustain the tempo and direct continuous onslaught to weed out all the criminal elements and reduce crime to the barest minimum in the State.”
