The All Progressives Congress (APC) United Kingdom (UK) Interim National Working Committee (NWC) has announced that the chapter has scheduled April 1 as the date for its congress to elect substantive leaders.
Mustapha Abdullahi, a member of the committee while speaking to journalists at the APC national secretariat in Abuja on Monday, Abdullahi stated that a letter regarding the congress date had been sent to the party's national leadership for approval.
He also disclosed that on February 16, the committee had submitted a comprehensive report on the APC UK chapter to the party's leadership, outlining the steps taken to fulfil their mandate of conducting a congress within three to six months.
Abdullahi further noted that Nigeria's High Commissioner in the UK, Amb. Sarafa Ishola and the party's representative from Nigeria would attend the congress in the UK as observers.
“Nigeria’s High Commissioner in the UK will be our Special Guest of Honour and will observe the event in his capacity as Nigeria’s number one citizen in the UK.
“We have today, published details of the congress in a publication as required by the party’s constitution,” Mustapha said.
He also mentioned that the congress would adhere to the party's constitution and that other APC leaders from outside the UK diaspora were expected to attend.
However, he cautioned the public to beware of imposter groups claiming to be APC leaders in the UK, as they are not recognised by the party.
He expressed concern over the prevalence of fake news on social media and urged the general public to be cautious and well-informed to avoid being misled.
17-member APC UK Interim National Working Committee was inaugurated in September 2022, The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalled.
