Tech giant Apple has included its retail staff in the internal testing of the buy now, pay later functionality of its Pay service.

It is usually a hint of impending release when the tech giant's retail workforce receives experimental features.

Staff at the company's HQ visitor centre tested Tap to Pay just before the first partner firms like Square and PayPal introduced support for the payment option.

In 2019, a month before the company's credit card was made accessible, employees at Apple Stores began testing it.

The pay later features for Apple Pay were originally introduced by the tech giant at its WWDC event in June 2022.

The business decided against including it when it released iOS 16 and instead released the new mobile operating system without it.

At the time, the corporation was experiencing "pretty severe technical and engineering issues in rolling out the service," according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, which caused delays.

When Apple first announced pay later, the company said that customers would be able to divide the cost of goods into four equal payments over the course of six weeks with no added interest or fees.

Gurman has now revealed that the business is also collaborating with Goldman Sachs Group to provide a choice that spreads the cost of significant purchases over a number of months with interest added on top.

It is not difficult to think that the company has plans to add more pay-later choices in the future given that it even established its own subsidiary to carry out customer credit checks and approvals.
