The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command has arrested Chukwuemeka Oputa, alias 'Pounds and Dollar', of Umuaka, Njaba, Imo State, who is accused of leading a gang responsible for a string of armed robberies and other crimes in the nation's capital.

SP Josephine Adeh, FCT Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed on Monday that the criminals were apprehended on April 4, 2024.

She stated that the arrest followed the capture of one Moses Hassan'm' of Idda, Kogi State, a cultist and part of the armed robbery group, on February 14, 2024.

The police apprehended other gang members, including Praise Etta of Etung, Cross River State; Rafael Dav A.K.A. Raffy of Guma, Benue State; and Thomas Akange of Markudi, Benue State.

Four locally constructed AK47 rifles, three locally created rifles with cartridges, an English pistol, one locally built pistol, a Dane gun, three AK47 ammunitions, a 5.56mm assault ammunition, and an empty cartridge were among the exhibits seized from the accused.

“All the suspects have since confessed to being involved in a series of armed robberies and other heinous crimes in FCT and are also members of a confraternity cult group called Vikings”, the PPRO added.

On the other hand, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), through the  Department of Development Control, has reclaimed over 100 hectares of land in the Gosa District of the FCT, and arrested eight land grabbers.

Director of the department, Mukhtar Galadima, emphasised the collaboration with EFCC, ICPC, and the Nigerian Police in the apprehension of the perpetrators.

Galadima highlighted the importance of eliminating land-grabbing cases to prevent unsuspecting Nigerians from purchasing properties acquired through deceitful means.

He reiterated the FCTA’s commitment to addressing such incidents, referencing similar actions taken near the Train Station last year.

According to him, the reclaimed land, allocated to a corporate entity for housing estates, was illegally fenced off by encroachers, assuring that all illegal fences would be removed to prevent further encroachment.

He urged prospective land buyers to conduct due diligence by verifying land allocations with relevant government agencies, including the Department of Lands Administration, Development Control, and Urban and Regional Planning.
