Arsenal beat Wolves, back at Premier League summit

Leandro Trossard and Martin Ordegaard were the scorers as Arsenal romped to a 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers Saturday evening to climb back to the top of the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta's side smarting from their Champions League elimination midweek took advantage of Manchester City's FA Cup commitments to temporarily reassert leadership at the top of the table.

The Gunners had a few good chances to go ahead in the first 30 minutes of action but were guilty of wastefulness in front of goal.

More worrying was the yellow cards handed to the duo of influential Lendro Trossard and Declan Rice while Jakob Kiwior had a terrible game defensively and on one occasion was outwitted by Pedro Gomes whose eventual shot came off the woodwork.

Wolves were rocked by injuries to several first-team players and had most of their youth team players on the bench, saw a lot of the ball and put the Arsenal defence under pressure.

However, a moment of reprieve came for Mikel Arteta's team as Gabriel Jesus' blocked shot in added time saw the ball fall kindly onto the path of Trossard. The Belgian's snapshot was a lucky punt as the ball came off the post and bounced into the net.

The game descended to a physical contest as the home side deployed the option to unsettle the more skilful and relatively fully fit Arsenal squad.

Wolves cut open the Arsenal defence in the 70th minute but Mario Lemina's chipped ball was well-read by David Raya.

Mikel Arteta yanked off goal scorer, Trossard for Gabriel Martinelli to offer defensive help to the jaded Kiwior, but Wolves still threatened endlessly from Arsenal's left-back position.
Gabriel Jesus cut the picture of a frustrated player and shook his head in disbelief when he was subbed off for Thomas Partey with 10 minutes left to play.

Ordegaard made victory certain in the last stages of the tie at the Molineux to ease the tension in the dugout and in the stands.
