The University of Uyo chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has warned students to shun indecent dressing.

The Chapter's Chairman, Dr Happiness Uduk, gave the warning while speaking to a delegation of the Association of Brotherhood Academic Scholars (ABAS) who came to brief her office on their 19th convocation ceremony and public symposium on peace.

Uduk applauded the ABAS members for their decent dress sense, expressing dissatisfaction with the prevalent low-grade dressing habits among students in higher institutions.

“I want to encourage other students on campus to emulate your examples. I encourage you to lead a life worthy of emulation by jettisoning all vices and crime,” she said.

Speaking on the topic of the symposium, “Threats to Peaceful Co-existence: The Role of a Religious Man”, Uduk commended the thoughtfulness of the scholars and their concern with the national peace and religious tolerance as the general elections draw near.

The ASUU Chairman also lauded the ABAS members for scheduling the symposium during the political campaign period when there is a need for peaceful electoral activities.

In his remark, DV Mbereobong Archibong, the President of ABAS UniUyo, said the visit was part of activities to mark the Academic Scholars' 19th convocation.

He explained that ABAS is the intellectual arm of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star whose teachings and practices are rooted in divine love, generous living and peaceful coexistence among the human race.

“The ABAS 19th convocation will hold in Uyo featuring a solemn street walk for peace, inter-faith symposium, and Hall of Fame Awards to meritorious scholars across the state,” he revealed.
