On Saturday night, bandits raided Dutse, a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) neighbourhood administered by the Bwari Area Council, kidnapping at least five people.

The bandits infiltrated the village via the steep region that connects it to Mpape, another community in the FCT and reportedly came to the Mango Tree neighbourhood in Duste's New Jerusalem neighbourhood at about 8 p.m. on Saturday.

A resident in the region, who did not want her name published, stated that those living in the area were unable to sleep until daylight due to terror.

The source said: “They came around 8 pm. One woman, three men and two boys were kidnapped. One of the boys, who is three years old, was found in the bush today (Sunday) morning. The mother of the two boys who were among those kidnapped was beaten by the kidnappers. She is currently at the hospital receiving treatment.”

Meanwhile, suspected bandits have reportedly ambushed soldiers in communities of Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, killing six and abducting one captain.

According to reports, the incident took place on Friday night at Roro, Karaga and Rumace communities of the aforementioned LGA.

The soldiers were reportedly responding to a distress call when the bandits ambushed them at the Roro village.

Daily Trust reports that the bandits also killed a hunter and two farmers, and burned down houses, food stores and motorcycles.

Confirming the incident, a resident of the community said the incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. and lasted for hours, stating: “Six soldiers lost their lives and one volunteer hunter."

The State Commissioner for Homeland Security, Bello Mohammed revealed that the government was making moves to ensure the perpetrators face the law.

“All hands are on deck to bring the perpetrators to face the law. The government, on its own, is doing everything possible to end the insecurity issues. Additionally, the government will stand by the bereaved and share their grief as well as support them, now and in the long term."
