The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Benue State University Chapter has commenced an indefinite strike.
The university gates were reported under locks and keys on Friday morning, stopping students and staff from accessing the school's campuses.
According to Daily Post, the Chairman of BSU ASUU, Dr Kwaehfan Tarmombo, confirmed the development, noting it is indefinite and comprehensive.
He added that the chapter embarked on the strike action due to “several problems”, with the university management.
However, a senior lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, Dr John Ogi stated that the gates were locked by the university administration to prevent ASUU from holding its congress.
“The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Benue State University Branch had at early hours of Friday scheduled a congress which was to brief her members of the directive from National Branch of ASUU.
“On getting to the gates of the university this morning all entrances to the university were under lock to prevent ASUU members from gaining entrance to the campus.
“The drama which went on for few minutes at the gate necessitated the declaration of strike action right at the gate.
“The Chairman ASUU BSU made the pronouncement of the strike and ASUU members sang the solidarity song," he said.
