The United States President Joe Biden on April 26 will receive South Korean President, Yoon Suk Yeol on a state visit in Washington, the White House said on Tuesday.

The White House declared: “The visit which is the second of Biden's time in office will highlight the importance and enduring strength of the ironclad alliance between the two countries.”

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement; "The upcoming visit celebrates the 70th anniversary of the U.S.-Republic of Korea alliance, which is critical to advancing peace, stability, and prosperity for our two countries, the Indo-Pacific, and the world.”

She added that the visit will highlight the United States' "unwavering commitment" to South Korea.

South Korea has a long military alliance with the United States, aiding the U.S. in every war since the Vietnam War, and most recently during the Iraq War.

Both countries has also been holding military drills amid the tensions of ballistic missiles shoot by the North Korea.

Both countries Friday also announced more than 10 days of large-scale military exercises, including amphibious landings, from March 13 to 23.

The allies have said the exercises are defensive and are necessary to counter the rising threats from North Korea’s ballistic missile and nuclear weapons programmes.
