Borno: Kadafur Inspects Properties Destroyed By Windstorm In Biu

The Deputy Governor of Borno State, Umar Usman Kadafur, has visited the Biu Local Government Area of the State to inspect the properties destroyed by a windstorm in the LGA.

Kadafur was led by the Caretaker Chairman of the LGA, Sule Ali Yimi, on Wednesday. 

The Caretaker Chairman said following the incident, he led a team that went around the town to assess the level of damages recorded.

He explained that over 200 houses, schools and electrical facilities were destroyed.

He appealed to the state government to support the victims whose livelihoods have been affected by the incident.

Kadafur alongside his entourage, visited the Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS) and Central Primary School Biu, to assess the damages in the schools.

The team inspected classrooms and hostel blocks damaged by the windstorm.

Speaking during the visit, the principal of the GGSS, Hajiya Falmata Maina, explained that the roofs for three blocks of hostels were blown off.

She said the incident has caused accommodation problems for 2073 students of the school. 

The Principal added that no life was lost during the incident but some students sustained various degrees of injuries while running to escape for their lives.

The deputy governor also went round the political wards of the LGA to commiserate with the victims over the unfortunate incident. 

He further directed the chairman to compile a list of all victims to be forwarded to the governor for support.
