A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a lawsuit filed by the impeached Edo Deputy Governor, Phillips Shaibu, which sought to nullify the February 22 governorship primary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Edo State.

The primary was won by Asue Ighodalo.

Justice James Omotosho ruled that Shaibu lacked the locus standi to challenge the primary's outcome because he did not fully participate in it and was not present at the venue on the day it was held.

Furthermore, Justice Omotosho stated that Shaibu's suit was premature as he failed to exhaust the party's internal dispute resolution mechanisms before approaching the court.

As a PDP member, Shaibu was bound by the party's rules, which require aggrieved aspirants to first seek redress through the party’s Appeal Committee before filing a court case.

The judge also found sufficient evidence to confirm that Ighodalo was the rightful winner of the primary.

More details will follow soon.
