Popular Abuja shopping destination Banex Plaza has reopened following a week-long closure due to fighting between soldiers and traders at the plaza.

PoliticsNigeria reports that on Monday, May 27 at around 2:30 pm, the plaza reopened, ending a tense time that had caused disruptions to economic activities.

Allnews.ng had reported that a confrontation between traders and members of the Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police at the plaza prompted the closure.

To maintain public safety and order, officials had to temporarily close the facility after the argument turned physical between onlookers and security officers.

Reopening was agreed upon, reportedly, following successful negotiations between military authorities and the traders who had been involved in the altercations.

Many customers and business owners who frequent the busy electronics and telecoms centre are relieved by this agreement.

After a prior argument, four military police officers retaliated against traders in the original altercation that led to the closure.

Reopening represents a return to normalcy and the resumption of commercial operations at one of the main commercial hubs in Abuja.
