President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the senate seeking confirmation of Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
The president made the request in a letter read by the Senate president, Ahmad Lawan on Tuesday.
He explained that his request was in line with the provisions of Nigeria's constitution.
President Buhari appealed to the Senate to consider the request in due time as always.
Recall that Justice Ariwoola had taken over as the acting CJN following the retirement of Justice Tanko Muhammad last month.
There had been allegations of corruption levelled against Muhammad who retired on June 27 by some aggrieved justices.
According to reports, 14 justices of the supreme court including Ariwoola had raised the petition against him.
The other 13 include Justice Musa Mohammed, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, Justice John Okoro, Justice Chima Nweze, Justice Amina Augie, and Justice Uwani Abba-Aji.
Others were Justice Mohammed Garba; Justice Helen Ogunwumiju, Justice Ibrahim Saulawa, Justice Adamu Jauro, Justice Tijjani Abubakar, and Justice Emmanuel Agim.
