Lawmakers in the House of Representatives have reacted after the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, failed to appear for the second time after being summoned over the apex bank's recent policy.

Emefiele was to be quizzed on the cash limit withdrawal policy; a development that continues to garner heated conversations in the country.

The CBN governor failed to appear before the lawmakers on Thursday, December 13, as the Deputy Governor, Corporate Services, CBN, Edward Adamu, had informed them that Emefiele was part of President Muhammadu's entourage on an official visit to the United States.

The letter communicating the reason for Emefiele's absence had been read out to the lawmakers by the Deputy Speaker of the House, Ahmed Wase, and the CBN governor's next appearance had been rescheduled for Tuesday by the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila.

On Tuesday, the House of Representatives received another notice saying that Emefiele was still on an official assignment.

Speaking on the latest development, Gbajabiamila stated that the lawmakers would want to know more about the assignment that has lasted two weeks.

It was further pointed out by the Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu, that should Emefiele decided to shun his scheduled appearance on Thursday, their decision on the suspension of withdrawal policy would still stand.
