Chess-A-Thon: Sanwo-olu celebrates Tunde Onakoya 60 hours chess record feat

The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwoolu has congratulated a Nigerian Chess Master, Tunde Onakoya for achieving the Guinness World Record in chess playing. 

Onakoya had embarked on a journey to play chess with multiple competitors for a period of 58 hours without being defeated. He further extended his streak to 60 hours to further solidify his record. 

The previous record stood at 56 hours and 9 mins, a record set by the norwegian duo of Hallvard Haug Flatebo and Sjur Ferkingstad on the 11th of November, 2018.

Governor Sanwo-olu in his congratulatory message made available on his X platform noted that Onakoya has continue to demonstrate that greatness can emerge from even the most humble beginnings.

He tweeted;


“Congratulations to Chess Master Tunde Onakoya on breaking the world chess marathon record in Times Square, New York. Your journey from Lagos, Nigeria to global recognition embodies the spirit of our great city.
