Chicago State University Releases President Tinubu’s Academic Records

Following requests from Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2023 elections, the Chicago State University (CSU) has released and made available President Bola Tinubu's academic records.

The deposition of CSU employees will take place in court today.

In its Response to Request No. 2, the institution failed to produce an authentic copy of Tinubu's 1979 certificate.

"CSU does not in the ordinary course keep copies of students' diploma, and after diligent search cannot locate a copy of the original diploma it prepared for Mr Tinubu in 1979, hence, has no document responsive to this request," stated the paper that was released.

However, the university was able to provide diploma certificates from other graduates who had not been asked by Atiku.

As suspected by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the disclosed documents revealed inconsistencies in signatories and logos, as well as revealing that the president attended the university after he "graduated" from Government College, Lagos, in 1970.

CSU stated in its response to the request for records, "The documents responsive to this request which CSU, after diligent search, has been able to locate are produced herewith and Bates labelled CSU 008n through CSU 0010."

The names of the students on these diplomas have been obscured for privacy reasons.

"The CSU is also producing diplomas for other CSU students (with their names redacted for privacy) that match the format of the Tinubu replacement dated June 27, 1997," the university noted.

Many, though, believe that today's deposition will shed light on all of the difficulties surrounding the released academic records.

Maldonado had ordered CSU to provide all necessary records to the court by noon yesterday, Chicago time.

The records that were made public included 32 documents.

Tinubu's primary school and secondary education, as well as his university, has long been a source of contention.

Aside from variations in the names of signatories on the certificate and the number of people who signed various certificates issued in 1979, there was also a significant variance in the institution's emblem.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate had accused Tinubu of fabricating his CSU certificate, which he had submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to qualify for the 2023 presidential election.

On August 2, he (Atiku) went to a US magistrate court for a discovery order ordering the CSU to divulge Tinubu's academic records.
