Remedy Entertainment and 505 Games have officially disclosed that Control 2 formally known as "Codename Heron" is currently under development for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC after months of rumours.

The project is still very much in the concept phase, thus there is no release date or even a projected release year.

Only what is probably a Control Point is revealed in the teaser image. However, Control 2 will continue to use Remedy's Northlight engine, and it has a huge budget of $51.5 million. Remedy states that the project is still in the "concept stage."

Despite the dearth of information about the spinoff and the success of the first film, the commitment to a sequel makes it logical.

The Control franchise's game director, Mikael Kasurinen, has hinted at a new direction for the series.

“With Control, we leaped into the unknown,” he said.

“We wanted to create something new. Something different and unexpected. A world like no other.

"Thank you, the audience, for making Control such a success for us.

“With Control 2, we’ll take another leap into the unknown. It’ll be an unexpected journey.

"It’ll take a while, but to put it mildly, this is the most exciting project I’ve ever worked on.

"It’s still early days, but it will be worth the wait.”

One million of the three million copies Control has sold since its 2019 release have been acquired by players.

The third-person action game has also garnered critical acclaim, winning 20 "game of the year" honours.

Simply put, the franchise has long-lasting success; Remedy and 505 are merely leveraging that sizable fan base.
