Governor Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State has lifted the curfew put in place in the region following the violent protests that rocked the metropolis after the killing of Deborah Samuel.

Tambuwal disclosed that the decision was taken after due consultation with security agencies and stakeholders, adding that the order takes immediate effect.

"Acting on enabling powers under section 176 (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, section 1, 2, and 4 of the Public Order Act, and section 15 of Sokoto State Peace Preservation Law, I hereby lift the curfew,” he stated.

The governor called on members of the public to be law-abiding and maintain the peace at all times. He also stressed the need for peaceful co-existence amongst the people in the state.

Tambuwal expressed gratitude to the people of the state for their understanding in complying with the curfew while banning all forms of procession until further notice.
