The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) Director-General Kashifu Inuwa has announced that the agency is empowering young people by providing them with the necessary skills for their own growth and job prospects towards the digital economy agenda.

This was mentioned by Inuwa on Wednesday during his keynote speech at the Youth Entrepreneurship Dialogue on "Problems, Possibilities, and Potential of Nigerian Youths" (YED).

YED was highlighted at Global Entrepreneurship Week, which was held in Abuja and organised by Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN).

The D-G praised Nigerian youth for their persevering motivation and enthusiasm for implementing technological innovations in their various entrepreneurial endeavours, contributing to national development.

“The fact that Nigerian entrepreneurs, mainly the youth, keep delivering on innovation, promoting inclusion, leading to positive socio-economic impact and economic growth, is an indication of Nigeria’s entrepreneurship dexterity.

“Entrepreneurs are and will remain the backbone of the Nigerian economy”, he said.

Regarding the difficulties facing the ICT and entrepreneurship ecosystems, Inuwa reassured the youth that the Federal Government fully supported and was committed to the enormous entrepreneurial steps made by Nigerian youths.

According to him, the government is supplying the efforts, policies, and infrastructure necessary to foster an enabling climate.

Inuwa added that by creating it's Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan, NITDA had demonstrated its dedication to fostering entrepreneurship and Innovation Driven Enterprises (IDEs) (SRAP).

“NITDA has always been committed to driving youth entrepreneurship and we have continued to train and equip young innovative Nigerians aspiring to realise their entrepreneurial dreams through strategic programmes ”, he said.

Among the programmes he listed are the Idea Hatch (iHatch) incubation programme in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency and the Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Support (TIES) scheme (JICA).

In addition, he suggested the Bridge to Mass Challenge (B2MC), among other skill-building programmes.

Inuwa mentioned the recently signed Nigeria Startup Act by President Muhammadu Buhari when discussing the support of the Federal Government for the encouragement of entrepreneurship and the development of more IDEs in the nation.

Inuwa urged the nation's youth to make the most of the initiative (NSA), saying that the Act will provide them with countless opportunities to reap its rewards.

He saw that the country's youth were the most important factors in the evolutionary process because they were the change agents who had a big influence on the country's and the world's economic, social, political, and cultural transformation.

“The youth, their talents, potential, skills and capacities should be healthily and sufficiently channelled to the growth of the society.

“As a nation blessed with young and talented youth, Nigeria can attain economic independence, economic sustainability, and economic invulnerability, through enterprising our developed talents and potential,” Inuwa added.
