The Obeagu Community in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has reportedly been invaded by troops of the Nigerian Army.

The invasion was disclosed by community leaders who spoke with Punch on Monday morning.

It was revealed that the troops who invaded the community around 5 am started shooting sporadically and allegedly burnt some houses.

According to the sources, the soldiers stormed the community with 10 Hilux vehicles and seven armoured tanks with over 100 military personnel.

The reason for the development remains unknown as of the time of this write-up and no casualty was reported.

However, one woman was said to have been hit by a stray bullet.

Confirming the incident, the immediate past councillor of the community said: "We woke up this morning with military gunshots.

"As I am speaking everybody is on the run. Soldiers are shooting in all the communities.

"All the Eha-Amufu people that ran to our community after Fulani herdsmen sacked them are also on the run with residents.”

A second resident named Ogbuabor Sunday shared that they were involved in the Catholic early morning prayer when the soldiers rolled tanks into the community.

“I was in the church this early morning around 5:30 pm when military vehicles numbering over 30 including armoured tanks rolled into the community.

"Shortly after they started shooting sporadically. None of the people who came to church this morning had gone home.

"I am answering this call inside the bush,” Ogbuabor said.

A Punch correspondent revealed that the soldiers were seen asking some women and aged people about the camp of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the community.
