President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Muslim followers to be tolerant and compassionate towards one another and all Nigerians.

Tinubu, speaking through Lagos State Deputy Governor Dr Obafemi Hamzat, announced this on Wednesday at the Dodan Barracks' el-Fitr prayer site in Ikoyi, Lagos.

President Tinubu urged Muslims to continue the good attitude they developed throughout Ramadan and to maintain religious unity.

He said: “We should sustain good behaviour, though Ramadan is over; We have no business fighting one another; We should have religious harmony.

“The empathy and love that we showed during the Ramadan, must continue; Ramadan has gone, good behaviour is not gone.

“Let us give to the needy. Always show charity. May Almighty Allah guide us and protect Nigeria.”

Earlier, while conducting the prayer session, Lagos' Grand Chief Imam, Sheikh Sulaiman Abou Nolla, said fasting had several benefits.

The Imam noted that fasting is one of Islam's five pillars and stated that Ramadan is a month of grace, mercies, forgiveness, and prayer acceptance.

The preacher urged Nigerians to unite, emphasising the importance of togetherness and variety in national growth.

While calling on all levels of government to help the people, the priest asked residents to be disciplined, obey the law, and maintain peace and harmony in their communities.
