Some food vendors in Enugu South Local Government Area on Saturday lamented low patronage following the low turnout of voters for the Gubernatorial and State Assembly elections.

Some of the vendors who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said they are disappointed over the low turnout of voters as it has reduced the profits they intended making.

A food vendor, Uju Anyim, said that she was yet to sell half of her cooked food since 8:30 a.m. when she arrived for the business at the election ground.

“I am disappointed at the few number of people I am seeing here and there is no sign of many people coming for this election.

“I pray they come out to vote so that I can sell off these foods before they get spoilt,” she said.

Obi Ofor, who hawks sachet water, said he is unhappy that only few voters were patronising him.

Similarly, Simon Udogu, owner of a restaurant close to ward 08 said he had not sold anything since morning.

He said that people, who were supposed to come out to vote are in their various houses refusing to exercise their voting rights.

Udogu attributed the low patronage to low turnout of voters.

“In the last presidential election, I made huge gain because good number of people turned out to cast their votes but today it is the opposite of what happened on Feb. 25,” he said.
