The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been accused of withholding exhibits to substantiate the case of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar at the Election Petition Court (PEPC) in Abuja.
The accusation was made on Tuesday by Atiku at the resumed hearing and he added that the commission is hampering the smooth presentation of the case he filed to challenge the outcome of the 2023 presidential election.
According to him, despite the payment of the aforementioned sum for the certification of exhibits to be tendered as evidence before the court, INEC has not made the requested materials available to him.
Subsequently, Atiku's counsel, Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) prevailed on Justice Haruna Tsammani-led’s five-member panel to defer further hearing on the petition filed by his client to Wednesday.
In his request for an adjournment, Jegede informed the panel that Atiku had subpoenaed top INEC officials to compel them to produce some of the requested electoral documents before the court.
According to him, the request is to enable his team to approach INEC again so that it would do the needful.
