The Presidential Election Petition Court has adjourned the hearing of the petition of Peter Obi and the Labour Party against President Bola Tinubu over the illness of staff members in Obi's legal team.
The hearing was shifted to June 1 after the Counsel for the petitioners, Awa Kalu (SAN), succeeded in persuading the court to adjourn the case filed challenging Tinubu's emergence.
Addressing the court on Wednesday, Kalu revealed that two key members of the team were ill and would be absent at the day's proceedings.
According to Kalu, their absence has affected earlier plans to tender vital documents before the court.
“My lords, our plan for today’s proceedings was to start with the presentation of our documents, but unfortunately, we had some unexpected development.
“The unexpected development concerns the sudden illness of two of our key staff, for which reason I am constrained to ask for an adjournment till tomorrow.
“It is with the greatest humility and apology that we make this application.
“I assure my lords that we will be here tomorrow morning and we will proceed with vigour”, he said.
In his response, the Counsel for Tinubu, Wole Olanipekun (SAN) stated that he was not opposed to the request.
The President of the court, Justice Haruna Tsammani, subsequently granted the request and adjourned till Thursday.
