A fire outbreak in Elekahia, a densely populated area in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has displaced more than 200 persons, with properties worth millions of naira destroyed.

Punch reports that the fire which started at about 8:30 am was caused by a kerosene explosion.

According to the report, those affected travelled for the festive season, while others were at work when the explosion occurred.

Speaking on the development, an official of the Federal Fire Service, John Nnemeka, disclosed that they arrived at the scene early but could not access it because of the nature of the houses.

Explosions of the sort are common in the country as fire incidents traceable to kerosene and fuel have been reported more often than not.
