FCT School Receives Sanitary Materials, Borehole From Rotary Club

The Rotary Club of  Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Lugbe Estate, on Thursday, distributed sanitary materials and a borehole to the Government Secondary School, Lugbe FHA.

The immediate past president of Rotary FHA, Babajide Onafowora, while presenting the items said the gesture aimed at fulfilling Rotary International’s priority areas which are water, sanitation, hygiene and earth preservation.

Onafowora said the distribution was one of the Authority's objectives to eradicate disease and enhance access to clean water and hygiene among students.

He added that the aim of the project is to promote a clean schooling environment.

“This will enable school pupils at the secondary school level to have the basic knowledge of sanitation.

“When the environment is dirty, the students are prone to diseases such as cholera, malaria among others so we seek to prevent this from happening.

“This month's theme has to do with water and sanitation, and this necessitates that we fulfil this mandate.

“We also wish to discourage pupils from littering the environment with dirty and returning home to fetch water so as to increase pupils’ focus on learning, “he said

The former president further said that the Rotary club complements what the government is doing in terms of healthcare services, and education among while contributing to humanity.

ROTN Ayeni Adetundun, the incoming President of the Club also sensitised the students on the significance of personal hygiene.

“We as Rotary, see it as a duty to enlighten students on how to properly take care of their body in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

“It is important for students and everyone to drink water early in the morning to flush out toxins, bathe regularly, brush their teeth twice daily and wash their clothes to avoid diseases,” Adetundun said.

Lucy Abang-Ojie, a teacher in the school and coordinator of the Rotary Interact club, on behalf of the school administration, applauded the Rotary club for contributing to humanity.

Abang-Ojie pledged to maintain the materials donated to the school.

The items donated include a well-equipped borehole, sanitary pads, and cleaning materials among others, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
