FG, Anambra Government Flag Off Social Investment Programme In Awka

The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development in collaboration with Anambra State Government has flagged off the Federal Government cash grant to vulnerable groups in Anambra State 

The grant also covers other initiatives under the National Social Investment Programme, N-SIP.

According to Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), the flag off took place at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women's Development Centre in Awka. 

The event featured the roll out of Government Enterprise Empowerment Programme, GEEP 2.0 disbursed through Marketmoni and Tradermoni and  the launch of National Home Grown School Feeding Programme and Farm to Kitchen Centre.

The National Social Investment Programme is a programme of the federal government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari  designed to specifically give lifting hands to the poorest and vulnerable citizens of the country.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq said the flag-off of the grant for vulnerable groups in Anambra is in fulfillment of President Buhari's project introduced in 2020 aims at sustaining the social inclusion agenda on the poor and lifting one hundred million Nigerians out of poverty in ten years.

The Minister represented by the Deputy Director of the federal ministry, Charles Anelo revealed that the federal government targeted at disbursing the cash grant of N20, 00 to 3,222 across the 21 local governments in Anambra State.

The Minister also noted that the GEEP Programme is captured in three signature schemes namely Tradermoni, FarmerMoni and MarketMoni loans of N50, 000 targeted towards  uplifting underprivileged and marginalized youths between the ages of 18 to 40 years, while the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme seeks to educate communities and stakeholders on the proper and more effective implementation of exercise.

On behalf of the state government, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mrs Chiamaka Nnake, thanked the federal government for flagging off the programme in Anambra, which according to her, the National Social Investment Programme, N-SIP is designed under four clearly defined programmes in the state, with a view of reducing poverty and inequality in Nigeria.

Calling on Ndi Anambra to start keying into various national social investment programmes mapped out by the federal government, Mrs Nnake assured that the state government will continue to enhance its support towards ensuring that the state is more livable and prosperous.
