Gabriel Suswam, the former governor of Benue State has called on his constituents to reject the Muslim-Muslim Presidential ticket put forward by the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 elections.
Suswam, who is also the Senator representing Benue North-East Senatorial District said the emergence of a Muslim president and Muslim vice president of Nigeria will directly tamper with the diversity and structural balance of the country.
He made the call on Friday in Adikpo, headquarters of Kwande LGA, before representatives of women, youths elders and traditional rulers where he distributed fertiliser brands to them, having earlier flagged off the exercise in Katsina-Ala.
According to him, the choice of a Muslim-Muslim ticket by APC represents the height of insensitivity and is a deliberate attempt to sideline Christians from the topmost decision-making hierarchy in the country.
He added that should it be allowed to happen, it will reduce Christians in Nigeria to such an inferior status as will undermine the relative parity currently obtainable between adherents of Christianity and Islam as the two major religions in the country.
Suswam stressed that the existing status quo which has always had a Christian paired with a Muslim or the other way round for the two topmost political offices in the country must be maintained in the best interest of all, stating that the current APC presidential pairing of Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shetima portend ill for Nigeria and should be rejected by all who mean well for the country.
State Vice Chairman of the PDP for Benue North-East, Hon. Azua Avough Ashongo also expressed gratitude to Senator Suswam for the gesture, noting it would boost agricultural production in their areas.
