A poisonous gas leak killed at least 10 people and injured 250 in Jordan’s city of Aqaba on Monday.

As to the incident, the Public Security Directorate said a gas tank sprung a leak while being transported.

The directorate added that authorities sealed off the area after evacuating the injured to hospitals and sent specialists in to address the situation.

It added that it occurred after a storage tank fell from a winch and slammed into the deck of a ship, followed by yellow-coloured gas rising into the air as people ran for safety.

Prime Minister Bisher al-Khasawneh arrived at the hospital where some of the injured were being treated as he also formed an investigation team into the incident chaired by the interior minister.
