Governor Sule Holds Emergency Security Meeting

The Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, on Friday held an emergency security meeting with state security operatives and traditional rulers to collaborate in tackling the rising menace of insecurity.

Sule while briefing the media said this is a proactive move by the state government to seek possible ways to proffer solutions to the situation.

He expressed worry over the presence of 'strange persons' in some local government areas of the state, lamenting the increased rate of kidnapping and other activities of insecurity.

"This is a very important and necessary move considering what is happening in our state, this meeting is in view of the challenges we are beginning to experience.

"The unfortunate kuje prison break, which resulted to the influx of some criminal element due to our proximity to the FCT, though some were arrested but we have continued to see a movement of some bandits who were kicked out of Zamfara, Kastina, Niger, Kebbi and Kaduna States.

"We have particularly noticed a large presence of these persons at Rugan Juli and Rugan Madaki in Karu LG, also in Wamba and Toto, with the rising number of kidnappings. All these make it extremely necessary for a new strategy to tackle the situation.

"We are not panicking but we need to protect our people and make plans for this, we decided to be proactive, he said.

He expressed appreciation to the traditional leaders for their roles, stating frequent communication has been used to tackle everyday challenges. 

The governor stated additional patrol vehicles will be provided for security operatives to help in the easy movement of personnel.

 On his part, the Commissioner of Police Adesina Soyemi, reiterated the strange movement as "the council decided to increase patrol, We need to work in collaboration to make sure these persons do not find the state suitable for habitation and cause problems," he stressed.

Also, HRH. Itsu Karu, Chun Mada, pledged to use various arsenals in their locality, vigilante, and traditional hunters to gather useful information for onward transmission to security agencies for appropriate action.

Mada call for the need to synergise and collaborate with a traditional institution to create awareness and be more security conscious and report any suspicious moves.

"We will carry along trade union on the importance of security, reporting suspicious movement in their community to the traditional rulers or the Local government information unit as soon as they observe and suspicion. To tackle the security challenges headlong."
