The United States is struggling with a persistent problem of gun violence, with more than 14,600 deaths recorded so far in 2023, according to the Gun Violence Archive on Sunday.

The latest tally revealed that 521 teens and 93 children were among those killed, with a total of 199 mass shootings occurring, amid the incident late Saturday.

The majority of gun deaths in the US are due to suicides, which accounted for 54% of all gun deaths in 2021.

Despite efforts to tackle the problem, gun violence remains a major issue in the United States, with the highest number of gun deaths recorded in 2021 than in any other year on record.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revealed that more than 48,000 gun-related deaths occurred in the US in 2021, marking a 23% increase from 2019.

Shockingly, the US has a much higher rate of gun deaths than other developed countries, with 12.2 gun deaths per 100,000 people recorded in 2020.

The easy availability of guns is a major factor in the high rate of gun violence in the country. In addition, a culture of violence and mental health problems also contribute to the issue.
