Hundreds of intending pilgrims in Kano have protested over the non-inclusion in the number of people travelling for the 2022 Hajj exercise.
The intending pilgrims lamented that they have not been allocated slots despite making full payment for the exercise.
The intending pilgrims stormed the office of the Kano State Pilgrims Board and the banking institution that facilitated their payment through a saving scheme, Jaiz Bank, to express their grievances.
While noting that some of them started saving in 2019, the aggrieved persons numbering 284 said they made full payment and no seat was allocated to them.
The first batch of intending pilgrims from Kano numbering 400 was airlifted on Monday to the holy land.
One of the affected persons who expressed their predicament to Daily Trust identified as Auwalu Jibrin said, “We are the ones the National Hajj Commission asked to open an account with Jaiz Bank and deposit our money there.
"The state pilgrim board has collected our passport and screened us and now we learnt that we have no allocation.
“We are now left stranded without any assurance.
"Jaiz Bank has told us that of course there’s a problem and they are working towards ratifying the problem.”
In response, the Kano State Pilgrims Board through its Executive Secretary, Abba Dambatta said the board was aware of the development, adding that the board is working towards resolving the issue.
He explained that there was no allocation for those on the saving scheme but he stated that he would be in Abuja to work towards securing the allocation for the aggrieved intending pilgrims.
