Nigerians and other immigrants in the United Kingdom will soon be barred from bringing relatives to the region in what seems to be the latest move to tackle mass immigration.

According to a new report from The Sun UK, the government is set to announce restrictions which will affect all masters students and other postgraduates.

Per the report, the ban will not affect PhD students, whose courses usually last between three and five years and are very highly skilled.

The development comes following recent reports of immigration in the UK hitting an all-time high of one million, with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak advised to “get a  grip on the rocketing numbers.”

It is expected that the planned immigration clampdown will be announced on Tuesday or Wednesday.

“Rishi Sunak is expected to come out fighting on immigration – pointing out they are figures he inherited as they date back to the year ending December 2022 – two months after he became PM.

“There has been an explosion in the number of people coming to Britain piggybacking on their relative’s student visa.

“Students brought 135,788 family members to Britain last year – nine times more than in 2019.

“Last year, 59,053 Nigerian students brought over 60,923 relatives”, the recent report reads.
