Jatau Leads Census Advocacy Committee In Gombe

The Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Manassah Daniel Jatau, has been selected to lead the 2023 Census Advocacy and Logistics Committee in the state. 

This was disclosed on Tuesday by the Secretary to the State Government of Gombe, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi. 

According to Njodi, the committee would ensure enlightenment and sensitisation campaign on the conduct of the 2023 National Population and Housing Census across the state. 

He explained that the committee led by Jatau, would provide ways to ensure the effectiveness of the Census. 

He said the committee would “Recommend reasonable and affordable logistics and security assistance to be extended to the National Population Commission (NPC).

“Supervise, monitor, guide and give directions to the Local publicity and logistics committees and recommend/ carry out any other activity that will assist the NPC in realising its overarching vision to produce accurate, reliable and acceptable data of the state."

Also speaking, the deputy governor, Jatau, expressed optimism that the committee members would live up to expectations. 

“Much as the digital census is not likely to eliminate previous bottles such as political, religious and cultural sentiments associated with accurate census in the country over the years. 

"We should note that it is human beings that control and sometimes manipulate these machines that were meant for ease of carrying out tasks, jobs more accurately, with great precision," he added. 

Jatau would be deputized by the state's Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Zubair Umar Muhammad.

Other members of the committee included the Speaker of the state's House of Assembly, Abubakar Muh’d Luggerewo, Meshack Audu Lauco, Commissioner of Finance, Muhammad Gambo Magaji and Commissioner for Local Governments, Ibrahim Dasuki Jalo.

Others were Professor Namala Amuga, Adamu Dishi Kupto, Commissioner for Internal Security, Yusuf Dauda Kaltungo DG Civil Service Reforms; Dr. Maijama’a Usman, Alh. Salisu Baba Alkali, Chairman BOIR; Alh. Sa’adu Hassan, Executive Secretary MPWB; Alh. Ali Usman, ALGON Chairman Gombe State; State Director, NPC; Muhammad Usman Shanu, Secretary; Bala Sarki, co-Secretary.
