Kano Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has announced an urgent donation of N200 million and N50 million to the victims of fire disaster at Singer and Kurmi Markets.
Millions were lost in fire incidences that razed several hundreds of shops at both markets.
In a statement on Wednesday, the State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Malam Muhammad Garba said the release of the fund is aimed at providing immediate succor to the affected traders, who lost their valuables to the fire.
He said the leadership of the traders’ associations in the markets would be formally presented with the cheques by the governor at the Government House, Kano.
"The state government would also look into other ways of supporting the traders when the committee set up by the government to assess the fire incidents submitted its recommendations in the next five days."
The statement added that while further commiserating with the victims of the inferno, Governor Ganduje called on individuals and organisations to support the traders in every way possible.
He prayed to Allah in His infinite mercy prevent future occurrence of the fire disaster.
