The Katsina State Government says the workshop organized by the state Sharia Commission for Local Government Chairmen and Councillors would enhance leadership and accountability at the councils.

Declaring open the workshop on Thursday in Katsina, Governor Aminu Bello Masari also said the workshop would go along way to assist in improving the socio-economic well-being of people at the grassroots level.

With the theme of the workshop was: “Role of People in Producing Good Society and Effective Leadership”, the Governor advised participants to apply what they learnt when they go back to their local government areas

“This workshop came at the time when leadership is difficult as a result of many challenges.

“All these challenges were created by us. We must note, any leader will be asked to give account of all his deeds during his stewardship on the Day of Judgement,” Masari said.

In an earlier address, the state Chief Judge, Justice Musa Danladi said that leadership is an obligation that some people must provide on behalf of others.

“Organising this kind of seminar to acquaint leaders with leadership skills becomes imperative because every leader must give account of all his deeds in the hereafter.”

In his remarks, Chairman of the Shari'a commission,  Dr Muhmmad Kabir-Abubakar said that the workshop was organised to focus two issues; ” leadership and accountability”.

Kabir-Abubakar, who is also the Grand Khadi of the State, quoted some verses from the Holy Qur’ an and the traditions of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upun Him), saying, “Everyone is a shepherd and will be asked on that on the day of judgement.”

He added that the workshop would assist the local government executives and heads of legislative arms in ensuring fairness and accountability.
