Vice President Kashim Shettima inaugurated the airlift of Nigerian pilgrims to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the 2024 Hajj exercise on Wednesday in Kebbi State.

Allnews.ng recalls that the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, granted the hosting right of the inaugural flight to Kebbi State following the commitment of the State Governor, Nasir Idris towards the success of the 2024 Hajj exercise.

Speaking at the event, the Vice President said Hajj is a lifetime opportunity that every Muslim yearns for in life, adding that no fewer than 65,000 intending pilgrims from Nigeria should utilize the golden opportunity for a spiritual rebirth.

He urged them to pray for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other leaders, saying: "You should pray for our committed leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, other leaders and the country."

As contained in a statement by Yahaya Sarki, the spokesperson to Governor Idris, Shettima noted that the Federal Government attaches importance to religious pilgrimages due to their numerous spiritual advantages.

He added that to ensure a successful 2024 Hajj exercise, the Federal Government appointed reputable men of integrity to lead the affairs of the Hajj exercise.

On his part, Governor Nasir Idris said the state government has made all the necessary arrangements to ensure the success of the inaugural flight.

He further recalled that his administration, among other gestures, paid N1 million to augment the Hajj fares of each of the 3,000 pilgrims from the state.

He also commended President Tinubu and Shettima for their invaluable support to the organisation of the 2024 Hajj, lauded NAHCON for choosing Kebbi State for the inaugural flight and acknowledged the support from his team in the state.

The statement partly reads: "Also speaking, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar commended Shettima for coming to Birnin Kebbi physically to spearhead the event. Abubakar also commended Dr. Idris for taking the bold initiative to host the historic event.

"He lauded the former Governor of the state, Alhaji Saidu Dakaingari for building the host Airport, even as he urged the pilgrims to positively pray for leaders at all levels, themselves and the nation."
