The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has detained a suspect in the murder of an elderly couple, Adebola Ezekiel, 80, and his wife, Abiodun Ezekiel, 79.

Benneth Igweh, Police Commissioner in the FCT, stated this at a media conference on Friday in Abuja, emphasising that the couple's horrible murder occurred on April 1 at their apartment in Apo Legislative Quarters in Abuja.

Igwe revealed that the police initiated an investigation immediately and were able to apprehend the culprit, a former driver for the murdered couple. According to him, police officers tracked down the culprit and apprehended him in his hiding in Obajana, Kogi.

Igwe reported that the suspect openly admitted to entering the residence on the same day, slitting the deceased's neck, and stealing the couple's phones and ATM cards.

The commissioner of police further stated that on April 11, two individuals were apprehended in Abuja's Mabushi neighbourhood for suspected culpable murder.

Igweh shared that operatives from the Mabushi Division apprehended the accused after receiving information that the corpse of one Bilkisu Mohammed was being surreptitiously transported.

“The deceased had earlier visited the house of her supposed boyfriend, who eventually travelled to Kano and left her in the care of the female suspect.

“The deceased allegedly fell ill and was given non-prescribed drugs that led to her death by the male suspect who came into the house at the invitation of the female suspect,” he said.

He noted that the individuals were now in police custody and being interrogated.

Igweh stated that on April 6, agents from the Command's Utako Division captured nine suspected armed robbers in a well-coordinated operation.

Meanwhile, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Goa, India disclosed that it raided a narcotics network purportedly led by a Nigerian named Stanley and his wife, Usha C.

On Thursday, Amit Ghawate, Additional Director of NCB Goa, announced these developments in a statement. According to Ghawate, Stanley was detained on Wednesday after an extensive inquiry.

He added that based on valid information, the NCB Goa team intercepted 7.35 grammes of cocaine from Raju S, a Saligao resident, on February 13, 2024.

Ghawate said, “During the initial investigation in the case, it was learnt that the accused was merely a peddler working for a bigger drug network being operated by Stanley, a Nigerian national and his wife, Usha C, both residing in Candolim.

“It was further learnt that the kingpin, Stanley, had associated some local people to whom he used to provide drugs in bulk for delivery to his various customers.

“On February 16, 2024, the NCB Goa arrested another field peddler identified as Michael, a taxi driver from Candolim.

“Following the leads, NCB raided the house of the kingpin, Stanley, but he was already arrested by the Telangana Police in the NDPS case there.

“Subsequent investigations revealed that Usha C, alongside her husband, was actively engaged in drug trafficking and managing the proceeds generated by this drug network.

"Accordingly, Usha C was placed under arrest on February 21, 2024, and proceedings for identification of illegally acquired properties by them were initiated in order to weaken the whole drug network,” he added.
