Manchester City on Saturday evening booked their place in the final of the 2023/2024 Emirates FA Cup as they beat Chelsea 1-0 in the first semifinals at Wembley Stadium.

Chelsea had had an unbeaten record against City this season which made the game a close one in prospect.

Boosted by the return of Enzo Fernandez and Axel Disasi from injuries, the Blues had the first real chance to go ahead in the game but Nicholas Jackson who was put through on goal was brought down to foil that move. His shot within seconds of that sequence of action was saved by Stefan Ortega.

In the 12th minute, Kyle Walker, making his return to action for City, slipped to the ground as he chased down the ball in a bid to deny Conor Gallagher. But the England international's cross was cleared for a corner kick. It was the turn of City to trouble the Blues barely two minutes later.

Kevin De Bruyne threaded the ball past three Chelsea defenders but Phil Foden who went to the end of the ball could not find the net from an acute angle as Marc Cucurella headed out the ball.

Jackson's profligacy in front of goal continued for half an hour played. The Senegalese did all the good footwork that put the backtracking City defenders in six and sevens but after going past the keeper, he opted to tee off Gallagher when he should have dinked the ball above Ortega in City's goal.

Nigerian winger Noni Maduek also got a chance to be the Chelsea hero when he pounced on a Gusto cross but the ball was cleared by Walker.

At the start of the second half, Pep Guardiola made a change as John Stones was replaced by Ruben Diaz.

Jackson and Madueke were presented with more chances to score a decisive goal but Petrovic in Chelsea's goal stood tall to deny the duo.

Bernardo Silva broke the deadlock in the 84th minute when his shot after receiving a cut-back from Kevin De Bruyne was deflected past the impressive Chelsea goalkeeper.

The score stayed that way despite the eight minutes added after full time.
