The Polokwane High Court in South Africa has convicted and sentenced Nangoma Levy Michael, 29-year-old to 58 years imprisonment for the murder, rape, and kidnapping of a 6-year-old girl.
The suspects, according to Limpopo police spokesman Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, killed and raped the teenager, who was subsequently discovered dead in the Tubatse policing area following an intelligence-driven operation.
According to the NPA, Michael encountered the girl at his gate while searching for her friends to play with.
He summoned her to his bedroom, shut the door, seized and pinned her to his bed, and raped her.
“The accused then took off his t-shirt and strangled the deceased with it, later picked up the body and dumped it over the neighbour’s wall, with the hope that he will dispose it off before it can be discovered,” said NPA spokesperson Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi.
The accused was sentenced to 25 years in jail for murder, 25 years for rape, five years for kidnapping, and three years for obstructing justice.
Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe, SAPS Provincial Commissioner in Limpopo, applauded the punishment and praised the police for their thorough investigation that resulted in the accused's conviction and sentencing.
