N80 Billion Fraud: Yahaya Bello placed on watchlist

The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has issued a red alert for the apprehension of former Kogi governor Yahaya Bello, urging all security agencies, including the State Security Service, to arrest him on sight.

Bello is accused of embezzling N80 billion from Kogi's treasury during his tenure from 2015 to 2023. Despite attempts by anti-corruption agents to arrest him at his Abuja residence, he evaded capture.

A memo signed by Assistant Comptroller General, DS Umar, and addressed to the police inspector-general, directs law enforcement to capture the fleeing ex-governor for prosecution.

“I am directed to inform you that the above named person has been placed on watch list,” Umar wrote in the memo on Thursday. “The subject is being prosecuted before the Federal High Court Abuja for conspiracy, breach of trust and money laundering.”

“If seen at any entry or exit point, he should be arrested and referred to the Director of Investigation or contact 08036226329/07039617304 for further action,” stated the memo which was also sent ro the director-general of the National Intelligence Agency.
